Up Support works locally in your browser. We never know your name, email, or Upwork account. The only things that ever reach our server are tied to a random ID: optional cloud backups of your templates, anonymous usage counts, and — when you run the profile analyzer — a copy of its results. Every one of these can be switched off, and one click deletes your data permanently.
Up Support is a Chrome extension for Upwork freelancers, operated by an independent developer. Contact: Morhover@gmail.com. This policy explains what data the extension handles, what (if anything) leaves your device, and the choices you have.
The extension keeps its working data in your browser's local extension storage
(chrome.storage.local). This includes your shortcut templates and tags,
watched keywords and filter preferences, your JSS history log, connects budget,
page labels you create, and two randomly generated identifiers (an install ID and,
if you enable cloud sync, a sync ID). None of this is visible to us unless a
feature below explicitly sends it.
| Feature | What is sent | When | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloud sync | Your templates and settings, keyed to a random sync ID | Only if you turn sync on | Deleted after 18 months of inactivity, or instantly on request |
| Anonymous analytics | Event names (e.g. "a shortcut was used"), random install ID, extension version | On by default; one toggle turns it off | 12 months |
| Profile analysis | The analyzer's results: Job Success Score, badge, hourly rate, earnings totals, and work-history items (titles, dates, amounts) visible on your profile page | Only when you click "Analyze this profile page"; disabled by the same analytics toggle | 12 months after your last analysis |
If you enable Cloud Sync, your shortcut templates and extension settings are stored on our server, linked only to a randomly generated ID created on your device. This ID is never tied to your name, email address, or Upwork account. You can disable sync at any time, and permanently delete all synced data with one click from the extension's Sync tab.
Cloud-synced data lets you restore your shortcuts if you reinstall the extension or move to a new computer — paste the Sync ID shown in your Sync tab and everything comes back.
To make recovery automatic, the extension also keeps a copy of your random IDs in your browser's site storage for upwork.com. If you reinstall on the same browser, it finds this copy and restores your templates without you pasting anything. This copy contains only the random IDs — never templates or personal data — and is removed when you delete your cloud data from the Sync tab. Clearing your browser data for upwork.com also removes it.
The extension sends anonymous usage events (for example: "a shortcut was used", "a scam job was flagged") together with a random install ID and the extension version, so we can see which features matter and keep them working. We never collect your name, email, Upwork account, message content, proposal text, or browsing history. Turn this off any time with the "Help improve Up Support" toggle in the extension's Sync tab.
When you click "Analyze this profile page", the extension reads the statistics visible on your own profile — Job Success Score, badge, hourly rate, total earnings, jobs and hours, and the titles, dates and amounts of contracts in your work history — to generate your improvement checklist. A copy of this snapshot is also sent to our server, linked only to the same random install ID, so support can help you interpret or troubleshoot your results. Turning off "Help improve Up Support" disables this upload too.
If you contact us for help and share your Sync ID, our support staff may access the templates and settings stored under that ID in order to diagnose and resolve the issue you reported. We access this content only for that purpose, and only when you have given us your Sync ID. We never browse synced data we have not been asked to help with.
We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties. There are no third-party analytics SDKs, ad networks, or trackers in the extension. Data lives on our own server and is used solely to operate the features described above.
All traffic between the extension and our server uses HTTPS. Identifiers are random UUIDs generated on your device, server requests are rate-limited, and administrative access requires a secret key. No system is perfectly secure, but the most sensitive thing we could ever hold is a copy of your proposal templates — and only if you opted into sync.
Up Support is intended for working freelancers and is not directed at children under 16. Upwork itself requires users to be adults.
If we change what data is collected or how it is used, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above, and call out material changes in the extension's release notes.
